Well the end of the regular season was a real hum dinger or as ol J.R would say a real slobber knocker. The Rays not only stunned the Boston collapse sox but may have hurt the Yankee bullpen moving into the playoffs.
I am sure the last thing the Yankee fans needed was over use of their suspect bullpen. They have one of the best closers in the game or the history of the game, the middle and late guys are not up to championship stuff.
The fun thing that did happen is that two teams on the way up got into the tournament and two teams that were dead are fishing or playing golf.
Tampa Bay a great story, with what happened and how it happened it was truly the work of movie of the week. The only down part is that they are stuck with a rookie starting game one of a 5 game series. Moore is very talented but game one in the playoffs will put a new stress on the young man. If Tampa can get a split in Texas all bets are off and Tampa could be the San Francisco Giants of this years playoffs.
Detroit is all set up. Starters and bullpen alike are all lined up to make a serious run at winning the whole thing. I have said all year that the Yankees will not bully their way through the playoffs. The Yankees pitching is not up to a real run at winning it all.
Texas comes into the post season with quiet confidence. The Rangers went about their business and feel they have unfinished business to take care of. The only weakness is their closer who can be lights out or lit up. If their closer shows up it could be a very nice run to glory.
The St Louis Cardinals showed a lot of guts coming down the stretch. With Atlanta wilting and the Giants unable to score more then 2 runs a game, the Cardinals did what they had to do and took the wildcard.
Everyone has already given the Phillies the National League pennant but the Cardinals had an excellent 6-3 record against the would be champions{just ask the media}. The Cardinals are in a great situation with a split being the goal. I say a great situation because the Cardinals have nothing to lose. The middle of the ST Louis line up matches up very well against the Phillies and last year Cliff Lee showed that the post season can cause stress in even the best in the game.
The only series I believe is a done deal is Milwaukee over the Diamondbacks. Ian Kennedy will win game one in a nail biter then it is all down hill from there. It says a lot when a team has Grienke as their 3rd starter. The only downside I see to that is Grienke has been a monster at home with one of the best records in baseball at home.
I will be playing the Detroit Tigers +130 to win their series against the Yankees and will enjoy the other three match ups. You may say well if you believe Milwaukee is a lock why not play them. No matter what you have to get the correct odds in order to make any wager and in general I do not like to lay the wood.
I also believe that the Cardinals will give Philadelphia all that they can handle but the +240 is not enough to play them. I will in fact play Milwaukee +400 and ST Louis +700 to win the National League pennant.
The reason I play it this way is simple. If the Phillies play the Brewers, there is no way that they get +400 in the series. If the Cardinals play the Brewers or the Diamondbacks there in no way that I would get +700.

Tampa Bay/Texas Over 8 -125. Both teams have excellent records against lefties, along with the fact that both teams score over 4 runs apiece. There is more. After all the Ray's had to do to get to the dance and the fact that their starter only went 2 innings in the clinching game. Will leave their bullpen used up at the start of the series. The Ranger closer can be touched up late in games as well. I see this total being hit later and off the bullpen.
Detroit +120 A very nice ACE versus ACE angle here which you always play the underdog. Overall in this series the starters, the middle relief, set up men all favor the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees do have the best closer in the history of baseball so if the Yankees can bully their way to a high scoring lead then they will have every chance at winning. The odds here make a play on the Tigers.
Detroit/New York Over 7. Hello! This is an American League park which yields close to 9.5 runs a game. Where a simple fly ball to right turns in to round trippers. The Tigers score 5.3 runs a game against lefties. The Tigers tend to work counts and will keep Sabathia at a high pitch count. When Sabathia goes, in comes a less then great middle relief group of pitchers. The Yankees do not have that veteran pitcher that can guile his way out of tough situations. They have no specialist to get that key out or late double play ball. This is the lowest total between these two teams in recent history.
