Play as a TEAM and be a winner. Baseball plays for Tuesday 8/30/2011

Teams that do not have hitters who can hit 20 to 30 home runs in a season must do the little things perfect. When a lead off hitter gets on base, steals a base with no outs, what must the next batter do? The next hitter must lay down a bunt, hit a long fly ball or hit a grounder to the right side. Do not hit a off the plate pitch hard to the shortstop. Ok so that's one out and a runner on 2nd. Up steps the highest paid player on the team who will get paid 15-18 million a year on his next contract. Well he swings at the first pitch, which would have been a ball. 2nd pitch almost hits this batter but he is swinging. 3rd pitch goes off the plate and because the shortstop is out of position, the superstar swings at should have been ball 4. 3 pitches and all out of the strike zone. YOUR OUT. Of course the next guy swings at 2 balls and hits a long fly ball to the deepest part of the yard.

What should have happened. The 2nd hitter hits a ground ball to 2nd base and the runner goes to 3rd with one out. The Super Star takes a few pitches and works a nice walk. The 4th place hitter, who is hitting over 300 for the year. Well he hits the long fly ball and TEAM scores a run, playing team baseball.

I watch games from all over the country everyday and all players care about in to many cases is their own stats that bring the TEAM down. It is sad that unless you are a really big time player that you do not put the TEAM first.

The team I am talking about won it all last year and did all the little things right. No egos got in the way of this team doing all they could to just win. Amazingly while playing as a TEAM, the group as a whole had a decent year hitting. Nothing special but with no STARS that is the way it had to be done. Back to my point. Because of mental breakdowns and selfish players a good man and a good hitting coach will be fired. The players will get paid their millions and not give this coach a second thought.

It happens all over baseball and the teams that play as a TEAM are the teams that can shock the world.

Started with a list of 10 possible plays for this weekends college football. Getting the information I need from the people closest to some of the key players in these match ups. Will also look for line moves with or against us. Hopefully I can land on just a handful of plays that will get the season off to the right start.

I will give this Thursday play right now........Bowling Green +7.5

All other plays will be posted right after kickoff.

Have a great day

Tough to find Value in Baseball but one nice play today

I will continue to step on my soap box and the Detroit Lions are at the top of that box. Stars are coming to Detroit with Johnson and Stafford are special. As the Baltimore Ravens can attest to having your main star being a defensive player can work very good.

Just say Suh!!! This guy is fast tough and nasty. He will carry the Lions to their best season since Barry Sanders took his ball and quit early. Suh will need to stay healthy and to become a true contender the Lions will have to have a great running back and center but it will be a very fun year for long suffering Lion fans.

NCAA Football coming and Baseball still counts and 6 pick 4s

It is no fun when the teams at the top keep winning everyday. Milwaukee never loses, Detroit is on fire and Arizona may never lose again.

The fun part is Cleveland has gone a nice streak. Although to late for the Indians, only because Detroit is playing so well. It really does not matter what the Brewers are doing because ST Louis with all of their talent has fallen on their face. San Francisco has won 2 in a row although it is like watching paint dry or pulling teeth to score the 2 runs that they need to win a game.

The Giants one goal is to stay 3 or less games back in order to make their series against Arizona have meaning. Of course the Jim Thome story is very nice even hitting a homerun in his first game back with Cleveland. It will be a perfect time for him to retire and enjoy his exit.

Pittsburgh will have a run in them next year as I have been saying their youth will mature and that young talented pitching staff will not have the 2 weeks from hell they got to experience this year.

In the NFL, I will say it loud and proud. Watch out for the Detroit Lions! They have a superstar on defense{I always start with defense first} And have a couple of superstars on offense. The one thing that is still building is an outstanding running back, that will come with great line play.

Look out in College football for Boise State. Look for U.S.C and Arizona State to NOT live up to the media.

Houston does it again, Giants sinking fast. Todays Baseball plays

When the San Francisco Giants are watching the playoffs on T.V this postseason, they will look back at the 7 games against the worst team in baseball in August. Right now the Giants have played 4 of those 7 games and stand at 1-3.

The term that was used was that the Houston Astros are out energizing the World Champions. Could not have said it any better myself. The Giants do not give up more then 3 runs often. It is amazing though that when that 3rd run is scored how the whole team sags. The San Francisco Giants are one of the worst offensive teams in baseball.

The entire team starts looking around when the score is only 1-2 or 0-2. The manager puts on hit and run, bunts or straight steals. Even if their is a runner on third with one out, the Giants have maybe one or two players that do not panic in this situation.

Look a 2 time CY Young award winner Tim Lincecum, just as an example of the teams offensive offense.

In Lincecums last 10 starts his ERA has gone down in every start. 3.14, 3.06, 2.99, 2.90, 2.78, 2.77, 2.69, 2.58, 2.53, 2.46. Earned runs in those 10 starts in order. 3, 1, 1, 1, 0, 2, 1, 0, 1, 1. Has gone 7 plus innings in each of those 10 starts. record of 6-4 in those 10 starts.

Overall 12-10 on the year with an ERA of 2.46, 2nd in the National League. With numbers like this Lincecum should be in the running for his 3rd CY Young in 4 years. With so little help from the World Champion Bats, he will not be in the discussion.

4 years in the league, 68-37 record and an ERA of 2.94. With little to no help from his offense and he still has one of the best 4 year records in baseball history. To start a career.

So do the Giants wake up in time to make a run at the Arizona Diamondbacks or does all their great pitching stay on vacation for the postseason? It will take 3 wins in a row to keep up with the streaking Diamondbacks. Arizona will face the San Diego Padres over the weekend. The Padres and Diamondbacks have been in the top 3 in scoring since the All-Star break. Take a good look at the OVERS in this series.

The division is Arizona's, all they have to do is split their remaining games and a 3 game lead will be more then enough. I believe whoever wins this division should have the manager of the year. Bruce because the Giants have had over 30 DL moves. Arizona because Kirk Gibson has turned the entire franchise around.

It is also a great time of year to find those teams trying while out of it and those teams on vacation already. Baltimore is still playing hard right now, along with Kansas City and Oakland. The Houston Astros, have a whole new team and they are playing very solid baseball right now. Minnesota has given up. Not because of their manager or players, but because of the expectations. There is not much energy coming out of Minnesota right now.

Toronto and the Chicago Cubs very little fight left and will not be spoiling any parties. The Colorado Rockies have been here before and have pulled off some great stuff in the past. They are out of it but do not feel that way.

The Mets at home are pathetic but on the road play their best baseball. That is something to look at down the stretch. Pittsburgh is a play against even though the group has not thrown in the towel. Pittsburgh is just not that good, next year they will be a little older and much wiser.

You will not have many plays down the stretch but the prices will be right. One thing that has become very clear. The Yankees will not win it all this year. Their starting pitching is so bad that they will not bully their way through the playoffs. Maybe a game or two, but no chance to get by.

If you must well then you must, NFL preseason that is

The best week to even think about betting the preseason, is week 3. The starters will play the longest of the entire preseason. The better teams will make sure to get out of the preseason in one piece. The losing bottom of the barrel teams will try to win any game they can. New coaches will coach to win.

The only team that has been a surprise.....The New England Patriots, who have blown out their first two opponents. This team is a Super Bowl contender and has talent from their 1rst string to their the 3rd string.

You want to look at good defenses giving up more points then usual and bad offenses scoring more in preseason. Do not get fooled going into the regular season. The preseason really means nothing. Betting wise that is. For players trying to make the team, it means the world.

The Bears have a above average defense, but have given up 44 points in two games. In the regular season this would be 1 point a game away from being a BAD defense. Handicap players that do well, do not handicap the overall performance. The Bears team will not be a C defense during the regular season.

The Washington Redskins are in a odd situation. Their coach never had to try and win preseason games when with the Denver Broncos. Now he has to win any game he can. The culture in Washington is one of losing. In order to change the culture, the Redskins feel they have to go 4-0 in the meaningless season.

When you have a bad team, a new coach and not many established veterans and a number of new players to a new system. This team must win in the preseason, to establish something good. When this type of team has a poor preseason, it could be a very long season and a team to bet against. The spreads will be playable early. Soon this team will be a play on because the number will go to high.

The team in question? The Oakland Raiders. They lost a decent tight end and a great secondary player. The new head coach, while not being new to the team as a whole could be some help. The best quarter back on the team is probably not going to get the chance to play that spot in the NFL. At first look, 8-8 looked very easy and with an upset or two it could be a nice year. At a deeper look this might be a very tough year for the silver and black.

The Buffalo Bills are another team that lost some weapons from a decent offense last year. This team was limited anyway and to lose any weapons can hurt deeper then most teams that might have lost a star. Buffalo is a team in need of a good preseason but looks bad on both sides of the ball. Starters in or not. Looks like a tough year for Buffalo again.

This week I look for a team that is established and was a solid 3 seed last year. The Atlanta Falcons ran into a buzz saw in the playoffs last year. Green Bay who won it all, put it all together at Atlanta in the playoffs and completely dominated the Falcons in the playoff game. The Falcons are 0-2, which is no big deal. The way this team got knocked out was a big deal and with most of their starters in action for week 3 of the preseason, I look for the Falcons to get a win and cover this week.

The Detroit Lions are the not so secret up and coming team. Last year I called for them to be very good over the next few years. The media has been all over the Lions as on the rise. The spread may catch up to them to quickly. As a handicapper you really want to stay one step ahead of the odds makers. There might be so much talk about the Lions that the lines might be out of whack. even though they might win more games the covers might be tough to come by.

If you must bet preseason, handicap coaches and what they must accomplish when it does not count and remember the opposite of the truth will tend to happen at this time of year.

NCAA, NFL and the PLAYS

The football season could not come any faster. I am hanging around even all baseball season with enough days left to turn a profit but when you are one of the best in the world at something, it could not get here fast enough.

Yesterday I went over a couple of small schools that will and a big school that won't but what about the rest? The 2 teams that joined the pac 10, well they are going to have tough time and it will not be a cakewalk. The teams who have been there forever will make it tough for the nre kids on the block.

One thing is for sure, U.S,C is still a mess and all that talent will not just come and save the program. Lane Kifin has his work cut out for him and his team. Every move they make will be watched very carefully. Where Lane goes trouble seems follow.

Early in the NFL season make sure you take a look at the teams that has coaching changes or offensive changes because the players got put behind the eight ball by not getting their new playbooks until recently, it will make a difference.

As the season goes along though do not give up on those slow starting teams because once it starts to click it will be something to look for when the odds makers have given up you as a player will be ahead of the line moves.

The Irish top 15, WHAT THE %#@$%$#@#

I was having a heated talk with someone I have much respect for today and the conversation came to Suh for the Detroit Lions. My friend was talking anout what a clown Suh was for his hit last week in his preseason game which did go over board and did get mister Suh s 20,000 fine. I believe that it was a calculated hit that was made to get his team to recognize the fact that the Lions are no ones whipping bot any longer. The message was we hit hard, play hard and we win. Period. The Lions have put all the pieces of the puzzle together and have built a ton of talent at the skill position.

My friend was saying it was a clown move and should not have been done which in most cases I would agree but the losing has to stop in Detroit.

The Lions if they keep their mind in the right place can win 10 games this year and the chips must fall where they fall. Losing is not fun and a storied franchise has spent 20 years being the class clown. Things will get serious this year and as usual in the NFL, the defense leads the way.

In college football watch out for BYU. Wow, many returning starters and a ton of talent but in the first few weeks the test will come right out of the gate. If they get those wins it could be a very nice season messing up the whole B.C.S picture. I for one hope they do. The powers get taken out all the time in March Madness, why not college football. B.Y.U and the ever loaded Boise State team can make it really tough for the big schools.

I was looking at Notre Dames 15th place ranking in the ESPN magazine and was a little shocked. There is really no reason that the fighting Irish are ready for any kind of a run. Good coaching change to a good coach but there is a lot to do. Like getting these kids to buy into yet another coach. I do not see top 30 no less top 15. With calls like that it looks like another great wagering season.

Tiger Tiger Tiger, OK no Tiger, haha

The Milwaukee Brewers are playing great baseball and are taking their division as nothing is being handed to them. St Louis is really trying to hand the division to the Brewers though by going into Pittsburgh an dumping the first 2 games. It really makes no sense as Pittsburgh had lost a number of games in a row. Maybe the stress is gone from the young team and they are back to just playing baseball as they had done all year but for a 15 game stretch.

Another day and more San Francisco Giants are injured. Beltran, Romo, Keppinger, Sheirholtz and maybe Sanchez. It is amazing the Giants are only 3.5 games back in the division with the most DL moves ever by one team. I will say this, the Diamondbacks have won 7 in a row and showed the heart of a champion by scoring twice in the 9th yesterday off of Roy Halladay. As poorly as the Giants have played, Arizona is making it a mute point by winning everyday.

The Giants got zero respect as champions and the media is saying see last year was a fluke and the cream is really going to rise this year. Hopefully for baseballs sake the Giants can hang in there long enough to make the Arizona series at the end of the month worth a look.

You really have to give the Texas Rangers a ton of credit by going to the home of Angels and taking the first 2 games in dominating fashion. They are leaving no doubt who the best team is in the West.

The Tigers do not seem to have the finishing touch in the Central and Cleveland wants it so bad they fight every night. The team that seems to want the Central the most is the scalding hot White Sox. I say I am sorry to the White Sox. I said about 10 days ago that it seemed like they had given up. Their manager and G.M knew what they were doing and have a great chance to win this division.

My friend was giving a hard time the other day because I had mentioned Tiger Woods 3 days in a row last week, so here I go again. The media is hoping or was hoping that Tiger would play this week so he could sneak into the Fed Ex playoffs. How absurd leave it alone he will be outside the top 60 in the world soon enough, let the guy figure it out. If I hear one more time that this guy is still right now one of the top 10 US players in the world, I will throw a remote thru a television. He is not top 30 in the US.

IF not for 30 plus DL moves Giants would be long gone

The San Francisco Giants are 3.5 games back in their division and 6 games back in the wild card race. This wouldn't seem like a big deal but the Giants could field an entire team with all of the DL players. Carlos Beltran, Buster Posey, Freddie Sanchez, Sergio Romo, Burrell, Torres, and at one time the Panda, Mark Derosa and soon Sherhotlz, Keppinger and the pitcher Sanchez. There are a few more but just to many to mention.

The Giants with all of this are still in contention, with one of the worst offenses in baseball but one of the best pitching staffs as well. The advantage the Giants have is they have on paper the easiest schedules in all of baseball to close out the season. 7 games against Houston will tell a lot about this team. 7-0 or 6-1 is a must. While they play Houston, the Diamondbacks will be playing the Philadelphia Phillies and another top notch team. The lead over the Giants could be all gone at the end of these series.

Really JACK!!! Much respected manager a jerk

The first time up Brian Vogelsong is thrown at up and in all the way to head high. 2nd time up Brian almost gets hit at shoulder high. 3rd and final at bat the Marlins for no reason at all hit Brian on his throwing elbow. Brian raises the bat over his head and slams it to the ground. He glares out at the mound and for just a moment it looks as though he wants to go out to the mound. Marlins catcher and the umpire gets in the way and Brian says that is the 3rd time, whats going on? Cooler heads prevail and Brian goes to first base.

The Giants are upset but nothing happens. The media says it could be about the Buster Posey thing. Uh it was another Giant getting hurt and the Giants have not hit any Marlins in any of the games that the teams have played. The Giants have handled their star player who was in the middle of a 13 game hitting streak, when a close to dirty play took Buster out for the year. I was one who at first watching said nothing dirty at all. A friend of mine who is not a Giants fan at all told me to watch the replay again. I watched and saw that if the runner had not bounced off of Buster he could not have come near touching the plate. Not cool but part of the game.

Now you have Jack speaking post game. He says why are the Giants upset? Well Jack it would be pure bullshit if the Giants lost the 10-2 All-Star who happens to lead the league in E.R.A and has been a big part of keeping the Giants alive. Maybe if Vogelsong had not been thrown at 3 times in a row he may have not reacted to the bush league crap the Marlins have been pulling. Since the Posey thing, the Marlins have hit a number of Giants hitters and in a show weakness or class the Giants have done nothing to any Florida Marlins.

Jack then goes on to mis pronounce the 10-2 pitchers name who happens to have the lowest E.R.A in the National league. He goes on to call him Volkswagon or who ever that guy is. Have a little class Jack! You are 80 and a great manager but you could act like an adult with a little class. I used to have a ton of respect for Jack, now he is just over the hill and a bitter old man. Jack sitting there saying that pitchers of the past would have really hit the guy. No in the past a pitcher who is 10-2 and has the lowest E.R.A in the league, would have the whole team would have charged the mound. Be a man Jack, have some class and say sorry to the Giants as a class club.

Have a nice day

The cream is rising and the picture is getting clear

What a great finish for Keegan Bradley, with 3 holes remaining and 5 shots out the young man went 2 under on the 3 toughest holes on the golf course. In the playoff Keegan took hold of the title by making birdie on the first of 3 playoff holes. All this happened after making triple bogey on the 15th hole but he dug in and finished in style.

This weekend in baseball the cream has risen and the picture is clear. Milwaukee swept the Pirates back to loserville and the Rangers took care of business in Oakland. Milwaukee has a 5 game lead and only has one foe left in ST Louis.

Texas will be playing their nearest opponent in Anaheim this week. This division could be decided over the next 3 games. It should be a fun 3 games.

It is a different story in the American League Central where Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago look to fight it out till the end of the season. Atlanta has a great chance to put the low scoring Giants out of their misery with yet another sweep. Arizona has a 2 game lead over the Giants but had a huge blow yesterday when Jason Marquis had his leg broken by a line drive. That injury may have saved the Giants season. If the Giants can't score more then 2 runs a game it will not matter what their great pitching does. Carlos Beltran has been out of the line up for 6 games and if he goes down for the year the Wheeler for Beltran trade will be a complete bust.

Dennis Rodman a class act as he goes into the HALL

Love him or hate him, you really have to love the respect class and dignity Dennis Rodman showed as he got into the Hall Of Fame today. The greatest part of Dennis getting into the Hall, is that he really did it his way and he got there by being a true team player. On the court he was a maniac, off the court he was a lunatic. His speech was incredible and as he was ushered into basketballs greatest theater. Dennis was all class, so the crazy one with all of his on and off the court antics surprised us again. All class.

The gym rat Chris Mullin also got the nod today and that man could shoot. Drunk or sober he shot and his hands were often compared to Larry Bird. Well looks like those people who said that were right as rain. Mullin is now in the same place as Bird a Hall Of Famer. Huge difference, Bird Celtics many championships, Mullin Golden State and just hoping to make the playoffs. Another class act who deserves all of the accolades and comparisons.

Have a felling that this major will be won a another surprise. What if Davis Love the 3rd wins it? He will then have enough points to qualify for the Ryder Cup when next played. So would he be a playing captain or will he pass? That would be fun though.

The free falling San Francisco Giants set a major League record today when they hit their 20th consecutive solo Home Run. Nice record but also shows why they have scored less then 2 runs a game since the All-Star break. 4games up when they picked up Carlos Beltran now 15 games later 2 games out. What a treat. Timmy last 10 starts 5-4 with a 1.67 era. As a Brewer he would be no less then 9-1 during that stretch. It has gotten so bad that Matt Cain was sorry for giving up 2 runs in 6 innings. Saying he let the team down. There is something very wrong when a pitcher is sorry for giving up 2 runs in a decent start. Carlos Beltran got a shot today but still may be headed to the DL.

Betting on preseason football. I do not for the most part bet on preseason football. It is a wonderful way to torch your bankroll before the real stuff ever begins. I usually do not play week 1 in the NFL, maybe 1 or 2 plays. I will fire and fire hard in week 2 though. I will have a great week 2, but you all need me for football. Both College and NFL, both will make you money and I am one of the best in the country period. I have taken on touts, and pro services for any amount that they want to put up. The difference is that these so called experts want to play 1000 star special and such. My rules are 1 unit selections with top plays being 2 units and at the very top of the food chain a 3 unit selection. Email me at anytime and I will give you my plan that fits your needs. Oh yeah, you make one payment and get all plays from start to finish. You get from week 1 thru the Super Bowl! You get all plays big and small and I wont make you play more money or lock parlays and then ask for more money. Only marketeers do this. It is the wrong way to do business. In College you will get week 1 all the way to all the Bowl Games!!! I will have a play on almost every Bowl game and hit a minimum 65% winners. Also be wary of the guy who says he is going to hit 80 to 90 percent of their plays.

Back to preseason, a solid way to go if you must play these meaningless games is to look at rookie coaches. These coaches want to change a culture and every win is important. Another way to go is to play on coaches going to losing teams. Again every win is a must. These coaches have to get the players to buy in right from the start.

Who says there is no JUSTICE

As Adam Scott surged into a tie for the lead, Tiger sinks back to Florida and the round is not even over. Stevie Williams has just got to be loving the demise of his former boss as he takes his player to great heights.

Pittsburgh will have their last stand this weekend. Even with a sweep it may be to much to overcome. It would be nice for the Pirates to put up a last fight for this season, nothing but a sweep will do.

The Giants need to at least take 2 out of 3 from the Marlins. Next are the Astros and nothing but a sweep will feel good to the stalling Giants.

Tiger takes a bite out of, er nothing

Nice 77 today Tiger. Why is the media still afraid of this guy? Another sponsor jumped ship and rumor has it that Nike cut his deal by over half. Tiger is probably a solid 50th in the world and sinking. I keep bringing him up because I am tired of hearing the media say how great he is now. He is less then average.

Steve Stricker is a guy who is well above average. Steve shot a wonderful 63 in the opening round of the PGA, just missing a putt for a history low 62 on the last hole he played. Stricker usually starts off a little slow in majors, this may be his week to be there all the way to the end. Rory probably broke his wrist on the 3rd hole. He still shot a very solid 70 with that hand coming off the club on almost every swing for 15 holes. With only one arm a 70 is a great score. Hopefully he will not have to with drawl from the event. Once again at a major you have a number of 40 somethings at the top of the leader board, which again shows that majors require patience and experience.

Baseball is freaking awesome and Tiger is normal

Dan Uggla kept hit hitting streak going with a 1-6 yesterday and to have long streaks you have to have those bad days that keep things going. Uggla now has a 30 game hitting streak and just another fun thing going on this baseball season.

14 games ago the National League Central was wide open. That is until the Milwaukee Brewers went on a 12-2 winning streak and the Pirates, Reds and St Louis went into the tank. Ok ST Louis is only 4 gaames out while Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are thinking about next year.

The San Francisco Giants still have a half game lead in the National League West, but seem to have found their sea legs. This division is going to go down to the wire as the Diamondbacks proved that having the big bats is a very nice thing to have. Arizona fell behind 1-7 early in their game against Houston and those big bats came alive for a 11-9 comeback win. The last 18 home runs that the San Francisco Giants have hit, have all been solo shots. One more and they will be tied for the longest such streak in baseball history. I believe it was the 1914 Philadelphia Phillies. Right now they are tied with the 2005 Boston Red Sox for 2nd on the historical list.

Speaking of Boston. The Red Sox after having the Yankees take over first place 4 days ago, decided that just was not going to work. Boston has won 4 in a row and what will keep the Yankees from winning a playoff series, their starting pitching has reared up and New York has lost their last 3 games.

Detroit still has a 3 game lead over the Indians and a 4 game lead over the all of the sudden hot Chicago White Sox. The Indians got a much needed 14 inning win against the Detroit Tigers late last night, which can really keep the Indians in contention. If Jimenez can rise and beat the Tigers today, things can get really interesting. I have a lot of respect for this Indians team, who could have fallen off the face of the earth like the Pirates have after the Jerry Meals Bullshit. The Indians have not burned it up but have done whatever they could have to hang in there. The White Sox have won 5 in a row and despite themselves, have come to life at the right time. The White Sox are only 5 games out and anything can happen.

Texas Rangers have done whatever it takes to stay in first place despite their closers poor performance this year. The Rangers are holding on to a 1.5 game lead and do have the better ball club overall. The Angels will have their top starter miss a very important start because his ego got the best of him and team didn't come first. Weaver will miss his start against the Yankees and if his team loses that game, I guess being shown up after a home run it is more important to make sure you do not look weak. That is a bleeping joke. Grow up worry about your team and throw at the guy who showed you up another time, hell another year. I will give the Angels all the credit in the world as everyone gave the Rangers the division before the season started.

At 76-40 the Phillies are just the best team in baseball. Between the starting pitching and the starting line up. From 1 to 8 their hitting is great and they have speed where they need to have it and they are the best fielding team in all of baseball. Going to be very tough to beat.

The line on Tiger Woods is 10-1 and really it should be 70-1 or 100-1. Tiger Woods has no chance to win this event and it could be a really long time before mister Woods is even in the hunt to win again. Get off it media guys he is just another player. He is not even top 20 in the United States.

The baseball season has been good not great for my plays, but lot's of season left. Watched the press conference for Luke Donald today, he looks like he is almost sorry that number 1 landed in his lap right now. To bad, he is a hard working very consistent pro with a huge upside left. So if Adam Scott starts to live up to his early hype, Does Stevie then get some credit? Someone in the media was saying what did Stevie Williams do for Adam Scott? Well just on the last 5 holes he got Adam to change clubs and all 3 shots were perfect. SO media please pay attention if you are to speak on something you only think is not right.

The sad case of mister Tiger Woods

Have to wonder on this fine Monday, after Tiger finished 36th at the WGC event. How the media is going to make excuses. Going into the tournament I was the only person willing to say he was going to fall flat on his face. The Golf Channel had Tiger finishing in the top 10. Colin Cowherd was again singing the praises of Tiger saying he wouldn't be surprised to see Tiger contend. Because it is Tiger.

Tiger is no longer Tiger. He will go down as one of the top 2 players of all time and arguably the best of all time. It has all passed him by at a young age and his lifestyle or the outing of how he lived his life may be to much to overcome.

I thought when the announcement of the firing of Stevie Williams, was going to be the retirement of Tiger. Alas like so many other money making athletes, sounds like his debt is going to make him keep playing. With the divorce costing him in upwards of 100 million and the loss of now 6 sponsors takes its toll on the wallet.

He will play every tournament that is still willing to pay him a fee to just show up. After all that has gone on he is wiling to show up down under in a few weeks to collect his 10 million dollar fee. Now he is like anyone else and has to collect all he can to pay for his lifestyle.

Then there is this.....Adam Scott won the event this week! His caddy Stevie Williams. Gotta love the irony of that.

Tiger goes further down the list and the Pirates have gone back to the bottom

Tiger after 36 holes is in 36th place out of 50 players. If there was a cut line Tiger would be resting his knee some more. You almost feel bad for this used to be superhero. Almost, he fires a caddy that was with him in all of his glory. A guy who did open his mouth to much when Tiger was down but he was there for Tiger all along the way. Breaking cameras and shutting the media down when he had to for his guy.

Now another caddy, another prolonged swing change, and switching putters every other round. He is using the putter that has won 13 majors, this is a good thing. I heard him talking after his round today saying he is hitting his irons further then ever before. He was saying he just has to trust the distances. He is now hitting Phil type distances with his irons but Phil still has the better pitching and chipping game. Both guys are lacking with the flat stick.

Tigers scoring average since 2008 ranks 138 on tour. So media!!! Are any of you experts ready to admit Tiger is not the best player in the world any longer?

During the U.S Open, Azinger and Curtis Strange had the oddity of saying we all know who the best player in the world is. He is the guy{at that time 15th in the world rankings} sitting at number 15 in the world. I thought at the time, what are these guys talking about? Tiger is mentally not in the game and has an injury that could cost him his career. At least with the knee he has a built in excuse if his game never returns to form.

Tiger no longer is feared by the other players and that got Tiger half of his wins in the past. That and the fact that he made every single big putt in a 15 year span, that would not allow the other players even a thought of winning the tournament.

In baseball you have to feel for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now losing 8 games in a row and going from first place to 8 games out in less then two weeks. The fans were filling the ball park, the players were ready to breakout, even management made some moves to get a couple veteran bats in the line up. Two weeks later the new bats are wondering what they are doing there and the fans were booing a double play ball. TWO WEEKS!!!

The Phillies are playing great baseball at the right time of year winning 8 games in a row and looking to really damage the San Francisco Giants opportunity to meet Philadelphia in the playoffs once again.

As the Giants sink, the Atlanta Braves are doing just enough to stay ahead in the Wild Card race. With Dan Uggla hitting in a career high 26 games in a row. The starters for the most part are doing their job and the offese has been opportunistic.

Milwaukee Brewers two weeks ago were in 2nd place and looking to be in a huge dog fight till the bitter end of the season. Winning 9 out of 10 games and extending to a 3 game lead over the Cardinals and a season ending{ for the Pirates} 8 game lead over the real Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ah, the American League Central. The division no one wants. The Tigers who are 8 games over .500 with a 4 game lead over the free falling Cleveland Indians. Then their in the White Sox who are 3-7 over the last 10 and are 6.5 games out of first and talking like the season is over. In this division it is not over for anyone. Finish at .500 and you have a 50-50 chance to waltz into the playoffs.

Another fun division is the American league West. The fun part of this division is the fact that the top 2 teams are playing very good baseball. Texas has a 1 game lead over the Angels. These two teams are playing solid baseball and when one team wins early in the day the other team finds a way to win later. Both teams have had big comeback wins and both teams have won the close games. Another division that will go down to the last day. Weaver for the Angels with his 1.88 ERA and 12 wins should be the CY Young award winner. I dont care how many wins Sabathia for the Yankees has by the end of the year. Sabathia's numbers are very average as compared to Weaver.

I am a life long San Francisco Giants fan but to me the manager of the year is the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mister Gibson has done a great job and making the playoffs or not, the job he has done is nothing short of spectacular.

Boston and New York. I was reading today how that rivalry is growing old and tired. That is really is not a rivalry. HUH, WHAT.... It is alive and well, I know when those teams play one another I make it a point to watch. I follow every team and watch many games but when those teams get together, they average fan will watch that game.

San Francisco and Philadelphia got into a very solid baseball fight yesterday. This one has been brewing for 2 years and with San Francisco beating the heavily favored Phillies in the playoffs last year, this will not die for a while. As long as both teams have the opportunity to meet in the playoffs and do not face one another that much during the season, every hit batter or stolen base with a 6 run lead will have an impact down the road.

It is a shame that the Dodgers have fallen so far and so fast on the field and off that the Giants have to go to the east coast for a true rivalry.

AROD, is a ROD, when will he learn

From a gambling side of yesterday, OUCH that was tough. Still up a little bit on the year and no juice was lost. You really have to feel for the Pittsburgh Pirates, losing another tough game. Losing 0-1 is a real ball buster. The Detroit Tigers have owned the Texas Rangers in Detroit the last 2 years. You wouldn't think, hey great the rangers are in town let us get HOT. When you own a team you own a team. Detroit getting hot at the right time along with the Milwaukee Brewers. Both teams making a real run at taking their divisions.

In the East the Red Sox and the Yankees are gonna fight it out till the end. I would say the Yankees really need to win their division. With the Yankees starting rotation they will need all the home games they can get in the Playoffs. The Red Sox on the other hand have decent starting pitching and being on the road will not hurt their chances.

The National League East is looking to be a landslide by the Philadelphia Phillies. Getting really hot at the right time. With Lee going tonight against the Giants, the Phillies have a great chance to stay hot. The Giants are the backwards team. The tougher the opponent the greater the chance that the Giants will at least split the 4 game series.

Losing 2 out 3 against the Nationals, hurt the Braves a little bit. Putting the Giants and Arizona in the thick of the fight for the wild card.

The National and American league West has become two very good two team races. The Giants lead by one game because Vogelsong is now 8-1 after a Giants loss this year. The Rangers also hold a one game lead in their division with a great opportunity to tie for the lead yesterday. Of course the called dead Twins knocked the Angels off to keep them out of first.

Baseball is going to be great and meaningful all the way to the last days of the season. It would be great if those Central divisions would tighten back up and see some fun stuff down the stretch.

Arod back in the news again, for the wrong reasons...AGAIN. If he was involved with underground poker games where their was some violence involved and drugs, he should and will be suspended. They already gave him a pass about 6 years ago ans this is after the steroid issues. There will be no free passes. This story is very quiet right now but it will get very big in the next week or so. This is going to get nasty folks.

YAWN!!!! Tiger is playing in a P.G.A event this week and the media is giving him a win or a top 10 finish. This man has not made a birdie since April. Cmon media, Tiger is a middle of the road golfer with zero Bite left. Not right now anyways. Give the guy a chance to maybe play a round or two before crowning him the great one again.

The Magic is broken up in San Francisco and Atlanta

Some trades look great on paper but in real life do not work for the other guys on the team. Atlanta gets their man. A speedy center fielder who is a great leadoff hitter. The Giants get that big bat that will make the difference. The Pirates get a couple veteran bats in the middle of their line up that will keep them in the race. The Atlanta Braves at the time of the trade had a 5 game lead in the wildcard, all but gone now. The Giants had a 4 game lead and playing best baseball of the year now 1-5 later and tied for first. The Pirates free falling out of contention but at least the ball park is full. With Atlanta and San Francisco, both teams had fought injuries all year but despite that had good records and a group that was playing over their collective heads. I do not know why but getting their man made the other 24 have pause and overall losing has taken over. The Pirates had Jerry Meals to put a stop to the Pirates story.

And so it goes. Baseball rules the day

You have got to love what the Brewers have done in the last week. Winning 7 in a row and getting some distance between them and the rest of the central. I feel so bad for the Pirates. They pick up Lee and he hits two home runs in his first game, and drives in 3 runs. The rest of the Pirates did not do enough and they lost 5-3. Ever since the blown call by no eye Meals, this team continues to lose close game after close game.

Arizona came up with a big win yesterday. Now the Diamondbacks have a great chance to sweep this series. If Arizona gets by Timmy tonight they have Jason Marquis going on Wednesday, Jason has owned the Giants.

Baseball counts so football can wait, Just for a little while

The Pittsburgh Pirates are really trying to hang in there in the Central, sans Jerry Meal and his blind eye. No complaints from the team that just over a week ago was in first place and playing an epic game against Atlanta. That is when Jerry Meals tried to be a hero and call something he did not see. It cost the Pirates the game and mentally the Pirates have been spinning. Now 4.5 games out and making all the right moves, picking up Lee and Ludwick this week. Both guys have played in meaningful games in their careers and hopefully can help pull this team up and over one bad call that could have changed an entire teams fortunes.

Nobody wants the American Central division. The Indians have not been playing well at all but somehow they are only 2.5 games out. The Indians did pick up a true ace in Jimenez who will start for the Indians on Friday. The White Sox sitting at 4 games out and seem to have given up by getting rid of players and not really adding to the mix. The Twins who are the opposite club. Every time the Twins close in on .500 the team goes the opposite way. After a losing streak and you count them all but done they go opposite again and go an a tear.

There are Houston Astro's all over baseball and they all are really good players. I was overlooking Houston's pitching staff, and it was not all that bad. If ever a manager needs to be let go, it is in Houston. Look at all the talent this team had. Some all stars and others that just had some really good numbers. The culture in Houston with all of that talent, is in need of a complete change.

The Yankees and the Red Sox will be going to a 6 man rotation, both feeling like they will not be caught for the division or wildcard. The Yankees did nothing at the deadline. Nothing at all!! New York does not have the starting pitching to get to the World Series and if they pound their way thru, have none chance verses any of the top National league teams but for the Brewers.

National League West has an outstanding series starting in San Francisco tonight. The only down side for Arizona is that the Giants have their 3 best pitchers going in the series. Cain, Timmy and Vogelsong are going this week. Arizona has a great chance to win tonight with their ace going. Ian Kennedy gives the Diamondbacks a real chance tonight. With a win tonight Arizona will get to one game out. A win tonight can carry Arizona a long way to catching the Giants and the further the Diamondbacks go in the season and stay close, anything can happen.

I really cannot remember this many teams having a real chance to go to the playoffs this late in the season. It will be a lot of fun and hopefully their are some shockers along the way. All 6 divisions have the chance to go down to the last days of the season.

Nice to have meaningful baseball this far along and push football off to the side for just a bit longer in a number of cities.

Baseball is so good right now in two days I could not find a value in any play. That is very rare indeed.

Have a great day.
